What "High Carbon" Means

All of our katana swords are either 1045, 1065 or 1095 carbon steel, which is considered high carbon.  The last two digits refers to the carbon content, 1045 equals 0.45% carbon content, 1065 equals 0.65% carbon content and lastly 1095 equals 0.95% carbon content.  The higher the carbon content, the harder the resulting steel will be and the longer the blade will hold the edge.
